The Parliamentary Entitlements Policy
has been inherently flawed for decades.
For as long as I can recall various MP’s and Senators have been accused both of abuse and misuse when using taxpayers’ money for travel expenses etc. While serious to the extreme, those publicised abuses are but the tip of the iceberg. Enshrined within those policy documents have been a serious and concerted effort to Gold Plate their “Entitlements”.
Those “Entitlements” (business expenses) have morphed into a notion of parliamentary right. That right has been amply demonstrated by decades with MP’ and Senators using allocated funds in any manner deemed appropriate on the day.
Recall Helicopters, Private Charter, Gold Pass lifetime travel at taxpayers’ expense, life time superannuation benefits’, Golden handshake when forced out of office, , Family reunion trips to Uluru, Weddings, Poli-pedal events, Junkets to Factional Party Political meetings ad nauseam. According to John Conte and the 2016 Report of the Review into Parliamentary Entitlements that is the “Principle Based” methodology is best practice.

examine and report with practical ethical recommendations.
